Game Play: Choose a math sentence card and place it on the cupcake. Count and put the correct amount of cherries on top of the cupcake.
Game Assembly: Mount Cupcake to file folder. Pink is for addition and Blue is for subtraction. Cut out number squares and cherries for playing pieces. Hint: Use your 1 inch circle punch for the cherries. If possible, laminate for durability. Glue title page to outside so that you form a pocket. Glue Tab Label to folder.
Expansion Ideas: After children master the process of counting and placing the cherries on the cupacke, encourage children to take a “guess” at what they think the total answer might be. For example; Use your finger to tap the number three (three times) and coutinue couting as you tap the number 2 (two times). You will end at 5 of course, but this is a great visual way to show children how to begin learning mental math skills.
