Contents: This game includes two different game boards, one for addition and one for subtraction. Children use number tiles to create equalities across the board.
Addition Strategy: Children draw two number and place them in the first two squares on their board. Children then decompose one of the numbers into two smaller numbers. (8 turns into 4+4) and then rewrite the new equation on the other side of the equal sign.
Subtraction Strategy: The goal with subtraction is to get to 10. Give children a pile of numbers above 10 to choose their first number. Then draw a second number from the general pile. Use strategies to change the equation into something simpler (14-4-1 is easier to do then 14-5 because 14-4 equals 10, then we can just subtract 1). These strategies are helpful for begining mental math skills.
