Game Play: This game is intended to be played with “Smarties” candy but can be played with any counters. Children roll two dice (or choose two number tiles) and place them on the board. Then using their smarties they begin to build the multiplication problem on their board. If they roll a 5 and a 2 they can build five groups or two, or two groups of five. Children then write out the problem and count the total amount for the answer.
Game Assembly: Print on cardstock and laminate for durability. You’ll need two dice, or number tiles (up to 6 as the highest value), and 36 smarties. If you laminate your board you can use a dry erase pen and children can reuse the gameboard over and over again.
Expansion Ideas: Encourage children to begin early skip counting skills by counting their groups around the board.
