Second Grade Math Games

Our Second Grade Math games build and expand on concepts learned during the first grade year.  For each game you’ll find  free printable file folder games as well as follow up worksheets and links to supplementary resources.   Second grade math topics:

Fact Family Gameboard & Worksheets

Learn all about fact families with these free gameboards and follow up worksheet. Children choose three numbers then build four addition and subtraction equations using the same numbers.

This is a simple Skip Counting Chart you can glue to a folder for children to practice. This set includes nine different worksheets, that can be used to build mastery for numbers 2-10.

Children draw tickets and record ticket sales.....but the rounding clown wants them round! A simple printable game for children learning the rules of rounding numbers up to 100. The Rounding Clown is always Clowning Around!!

Place Value File Folder Game

Children learn all about place value up to the millions with this fun school bus themed game. This game can be played alone or as a group. We used plastic number tiles but there are printable versions provides as well. Children take turns drawing one number at a time. Then they must strategically place the number on their board with the goal of creating the largest number possible.

This is a game for children who are building addition skills. Each peanut features three different numbers for children to add. Many children will required the use of a spare sheet of paper for this game. This is a wonderful opportunity to show children how to look for strategies to solve more difficult problems, such as looking for ways to make 10

Smartie Multiplication Game

his is another beginning multiplication game for children to build groups of numbers. You can use counters, but it's much more fun to use Smarties! Children roll the die (or choose two number tiles under 6) and solve the equation by placing the correct amount of smarties in the correct amount of circles. Children then count up the total and write the answer on the side.

Building Arrays Math Game for Kids

This is a game for children to learn beginning multiplication skills. This is a fun way to introduce children to arrays. Children roll the die and use the two number to build a visual array. They count up the result then write out their completed equation on the side. I recommend you laminate this game and use a dry erase pen for years of use!

First Grade Language Games

Alphabots: Alphabetical Order Game

This is a game for children who are working on learning alphabetical order. There are over 70 robots, however we recommend starting out with small batches and slowly adding in more as children show mastery. The alphabet is listed at the bottom for reference.

Letter S Beginning Blends Game

This is a simple game for children who are ready to identify beginning consonant blends. Featuring seven different letter s blends and 28 different s-blend pictures, children sort the pictures by carefully saying and listening to the beginning sound. Recommend for late KG, early 1st grades.

Rain Showers: Beginning Blends Game

This is a file folder game for children working on consonant blends and diagrah recognition. Each umbrella holds ch-, sh-, bl-, and pl- words. The raindrops have pictures of various objects for children to sound out.

This is a contraction file folder game where children match the arrows to the correct word on the heart. There are 16 different contractions with small visual (color) clues for beginners.

Snowmen Compound Words

This is a learning center for children workin on early reading and spelling skills. Children match the words on the tops of the snowmen to the bottom of their bodies to form a compound word. There are three sheets for this game so it best fits on two file folders.

Compound Words Game Level 2

A simple matching game featuring 32 different compound words for children to create. This game can be played as a single or multiplayer game and includes follow up worksheets for children to to show mastery of combining words.

Short E Long E Vowel Sounds Game

This is a game for children learning to listen to the different sounds the letter “e” can make. Children read the words written across each egg, and decided if it makes a short-e or a long-e sound and place it into the correct basket.

Kindergarten Math Games

Kindergarten math games make learning lots of fun!  Children who normally struggle with mathematical concepts easily pick up on them when they are playing a game or taking part in an activity.  This is a great way to introduce and practice key skills without the added pressure of a worksheet or grade to worry about.  Our Kindergarten games focus on number words, value, sequencing, early addition and subtraction, measuring, classifying and beginning place value.

Candy Graphing Games

These printable charts create a fun and engaging atmosphere for children to learn about graphing. Each set includes a blank graphing chart for children to sort and arrange their candies. This provides a visual for children to see what color they have the most of. Alongside the graph are boxes for children to write in their total amounts.

Building Big Numbers (Place Value)

This is a robot themed place value game for children learning to build numbers. You can play this game with your number tiles or print and laminate the ones we provide. Children take turns drawing number tiles and placing them on their boards to build the biggest numbers possible. This game can be played individually or with a small group.

This game is the perfect introduction for children who are able to count but not quite familiar with adding and subtracting. Using the cupcake as a learning board, children place the correct amount of cherries on top of the cupcake. We have a younger version of this game for children working on counting and number values.

This is a simple game for children learning all about number bonds. Using colorful ten frame cards children assemble the numbers to create the sum of ten. Children can easily memorize these number bonds to create a lasting foundation for future math skill

Number Values Game (Inequalities)

As children master their counting skills they can easily understand that each number represents a different amount or value of something. This game is similar to the alligator inequality games that easily provide children with a visual understanding of Greater Than and Less Than, only our game is played with a Hungry Hippo.

Make 10 Matching Game

This is a free file folder game for children to begin to learn which numbers go together to make 10.  Learning which numbers add up to 10 provides children with a basic foundation they will use in their mathematical studies for years to come.  It is an important concept and requires repetition and interest to spark learning.

This is a game for children who are beginning to show familiarity with the numbers that make 10.  The game is played similarly to regular dominos, only instead of matching the numbers you can only play if your number and the number on the board make 10 when added together.  This is a quick way for children to learn which numbers go together!

Preschool Math Games

Preschool aged children can begin to learn early math skills while having fun!  Learning sessions should be child led and interest based and are most effective when targeted in short sessions of table play and conversation.  These games are not meant to be frustrating for young children, but a spring board to encourage them to learn independently and alongside Mom, Dad or Teacher. Our goals for preschool are basic understanding of shapes, early counting, classifying and beginning sequencing.

Free Printable Number Line

Use these free printable number lines to teach children beginning counting and addition. These number lines work well for children's desks or minioffice folders. Show children how to use their fingers to hop from number to number as they count.

Count and Clip Cards

Count and Clip cards are a great way for children to work on counting, number recognition and small motor skills. Children count the number of ocean animals on the cards, find the correct number on the bottom and then clip it with a paperclip or a clothespin.

Printable Tangram Cards

Tangrams are a great way for young children to build visual and spatial skills. Children arrange the shapes to form pictures. This is a set of printable tangrams with coordinating picture cards. There are two versions of the cards available one with outlines and one with the full shadow.

Building Block Visual Cards

This is a simple learning center you can set up for children learning their numbers. Each number card features different ways to build and arrange square blocks to created a shape. We recommend using these cards with wooden blocks however, you can use Unifex cubes, legos, alphabet blocks or whatever you have on hand they just might not line up appropriately.

Counting Cupcakes Game

This game is super easy, but your children will fall in love with it. Simple draw a number then place the appropriate amount of cherries on top of the cupcake. Additionally you can play the game backwards placing the cherries on top, counting them and then finding the correct number. Children work on identifying numerical value and basic counting skills.

Ice Cream Scoops Counting Game

This is a learning game for children who are learning basic counting and sequencing skills. Children can order the ice cream cones from smallest to largest in size, or they can count the scoops and find the appropriate cherry to put on top.

Printable Shape Sorting Game

This game allows children to take a closer look at day to day objects to determine what shapes they see. Children then sort the object into the respective category; Circle, Triangle, Square, Rectangle. This is a fun way for children to reinforce their knowledge of shapes and bridge the connection between flat and geometric shape identification.

This is a learning center for children to count the cherries on each cupcake and match them to the correct number. Printable numbered cupcakes are provided or children can use number tiles as well.

Use our printable buttons, or supply your own (cinnamon canies maybe) and show children how to help the Gingerbread man find the correct amount of buttons. This game works on early counting skills then can be expanded to include early addition as well.
